    John Henrik Clarke’s Earthday

[This is from my friend Runoko Rashidi]

    1 January 2009

    Greetings Family,

Hapi New Year! I sure hope that it is a happy one! Today we celebrate the anniversary of Dr. John Henrik Clarke--one of our greatest and best loved historians. I have nothing but fond memories of him.

I met Dr. Clarke in the early 1980s and over the years shared a very good relationship with him. I visited him in Harlem and we spoke at many conferences together. O

Earthday Tribute to Cheikh Anta Diop: Life & Works

[This is from my friend Runoko Rashidi]

    29 December 2008

    Greetings Family,

Nubian Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt @ Nat'l Geo

Well, it looks like February is bringing something good from the quirky folks at National Geographic. Given their fiasco @ the re-creation of the face of King Tut, it is a bit surprising that they have chosen to feature The Black Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt for their February 2008 issue. I have yet to pick up a copy, but you can see it online.

    Computing In The Caribbean

Each summer in the Caribbean, locals watch the weather with a collective pending dread. Every counterclockwise swirl of white that makes its way westward
over the Atlantic might be heading their way. Hurricane Marilyn shut down tourism
in the Virgin Islands for nearly two years. With almost no other source of income,
the islands suffered greatly. Other less obvious storms ravage their livelihood
as well: airline strikes, travel fears, off-island corporate shortsightedness,
    unfavorable economi
